Orphaned at only a couple days old, we found Moses shortly after his mother was killed. He's noisy, adorable, and his survival is a miracle. This is his story. (Start at the oldest post to read his story from the beginning)
We like the "spronging" too!!! Mom remembers when me (Clarissa) and Sable were still itty bitties and would sproing around like that! Moses, you sure are adorable!!!!
Hello. Your story has reached Singapore. It's not just the kitten that is wonderful. You are as well, for the loving care you have provided a defenseless little creature.
You guys, I love this story! As a past owner of several stray cats (the last being a kitten of this size that I climbed a tree after to rescue 21 years ago - she lived to be 20), this warms my heart very much. I hope Moses can live as long as Tabby did (God rest her soul).
I LOVE your blog - it brings back so many sweet memories of our "Hobo". My husband was a railroad switchman and one May night (May 19, 1998 to be exact) he was on the ground (meaning not in the engine) working in the hump yard when he heard a distinct mewing sound. (I find this utterly amazing because a railroad hump yard is a VERY noisy place and he has to wear ear protection). He located the freight car and reached into a open sill only to pull out a dead kitten, then another. Reaching in one more time, he pulled out a recently born kitten with the dried-up placenta still attached. The freight car had recently moved quite a distance, probably freaking out the mom and she couldn't find her way back (or worse). My husband gently broke off the dried placenta and placed the kitten in his front overalls pocket. Fortunately, he got off work shortly thereafter.
When he came home (in the wee hours of the night), I found an eyedropper and we fed Hobo (the name came naturally) some milk - not too much because we didn't know how he would do with cow's milk. This kept him going until morning. We then purchased kitten formula, bottles, etc. It just so happened that we were on opposite schedules (me working days, him working nights) so we were able to provide 24-hour care.
Hobo grew up to be the most loving and devoted cat we have ever owned (and we've owned many great cats). He absolutely adored us (not anyone else, though). He constantly sat in our laps (he wasn't happy anywhere else and was almost a pest about it!) Hobo always slept with us - he would try to pull the covers up so he could go under the covers to sleep between us - not many cats will sleep under covers, let alone be so determined to do so! We called him the chaperone cat because he insisted on sleeping between us.
At 12 years old, we noticed Hobo beginning to lose weight. A trip to the vet gave us devastating news - renal failure. We became his 24-hour caregivers once again. He tolerated the subcutaneous fluids for awhile, but after a few months, he grew weaker and weaker and refused to eat. We cherished every lap moment, every muted purr, every loving glance. Soon the time came when we knew his suffering had exceeded our need to hold on. Hobo died lying in his most treasured place - my husband's lap.
It's now been two years and we still mourn our precious Hobo. We have since raised 2 more abandoned kittens from birth, but they have much different personalities than Hobo. I pray that Moses gives you as much joy and happy memories as Hobo did for us. He has already crawled into your heart (and into the hearts of thousands all over the world!) Treasure every silly moment and never pass up the oppotunity to have him in your lap. The loving gaze from that position is priceless.
Wow. That story is amazing, and brought tears to my eyes while reading it. It's easy to see that Hobo brought joy, love and memories...and we can only hope for the same from Moses. Thank you so much for sharing your story. It's so touching...
So glad I saw this story on ABC News and came to this link! It's wonderful to see this story and updates - which, considering you're getting married this weekend, is a lot to do! Congratulations - you seem like a wonderful, loving couple along with your neighbors.
BTW, our "Kitty" is about 13 now and we've had her since a tiny kitten. She's still playful and sweet as can be. She's also diabetic (two shots a day) and 'special' food purchased from the vet but the sacrifice (this is very expensive!) is nil compared to the love she provides us (my two grown sons and I) with. Life is good when there's a sweet 'Kitty' to share it with! Wishing you ALL the best in life!
It is so wonderful to see this story. I rescued my Sammy kitten who had been left to die because he had a disease in his eyes. I only had him 6 weeks, but I got a lifetime of love from him. Even at the end of his too short life, he let me do anything that needed to be done to make him comfortable and happy. The vets weren't even charging me for his treatment trying to save his life. He truly was an angel from heaven. It is amazing how I still miss him to this day 6 years later. I love all my cats and other animals, but some just reach him and grab our hearts. I always feel sorry for people who have never experienced the kind of love an animal has for us. I was told by a close friend years ago not to trust anyone who didn't like animals. Keep up the good work and love Moises every chance you get. Judy Ann Ruiz
Aww, little hunter.
ReplyDeleteI love the part where he goes "sproing, sproing, sproing".
:D
LOL...my kitten did that too! I loved when she would hop sideways.

Hey, Moses, from Billy White Shoes kitteh. Our stories are a lot alike. I'm two months old now, and still hanging in there.
