Chive On!

Yesterday, the good people at our favorite website (TheChive.com) posted Moses's "Drinking from a Bottle" video, and the response has been overwhelming! We've received emails from all around the world encouraging and expressing their support for a 4-week-old kitten! We even got a re-post on a news site in Norway!

As for Moses, he's growing every day! He enjoys staying up all hours of the night, playing with Lola, and climbing on just about everything he can! All the comments, support, and subscriptions to Moses's youtube page have inspired us to post more photos and videos, so stay tuned! We're hoping Moses can be the first cat to have his entire life (from 4 days old) documented online!

Thanks again to everyone who has commented on youtube and sent letters of encouragement to Mo! He appreciates it, and so do we!

  1. I came across your blog via jezebel.com, and I must say, Moses is quite adorable. It's also very similar to the story of my cat Dewey (they even look similar!), who was discovered at around 2 weeks old, very badly abused. She's my little miracle 2 years later, and we love her to death. You are doing a great thing :)

    1. Thank you, Lara! It's great to hear that little Dewey has overcome such a bad start. It breaks my heart that someone could abuse such a poor, defenseless animal. But it's reassuring that people like you help them turn the corner!

  2. Agreed. I found my boys last July at about 8-9 weeks old in the middle of a four-lane rural highway, which thankfully didn't have any other cars out when I stopped to pick them up. I think they're litter mates, and they were certainly dirty and hungry when I got them. Now they're huge and happy!

  10. Put some ads up on this site to make some money while you're getting so many hits. I know caring for a baby kitten can get expensive! Or you can donate some of the money to your favorite animal rescue group.

  12. Kudos on the blog and baby Moses. He looks just like my Chai, only mine's 4 months old now! By the way, how can you be sure it's a male so early? Best wishes from France!

  15. My cat was a rescue as well - she wandered into our family store all alone at around the same age/size that you found Moses at. I remember her little meowlings and feeding her with the syringe too. She grew up to be a strong and very determined cat - one that people always said was too mean, but I always said that if you had started out life the way she had, you'd be wary of strangers too. She always showed love to us though and we loved her - just wait till Moses is old enough for toys and tuna fish! She passed away a few years ago at age 21. I'm loving reading about Moses and wish him and you all nothing but the best :) lots of love and Chive On! ~from Chicago

    1. Thank you so much! The Chive is not probably, but DEFINITELY the best site in the world! Thank you for sharing your story, and for your kind words about Moses! He hasn't shown much interest in toys yet (his feet and tail are too fascinating!), but I'm sure those days are coming! Chive on yourself! (from Tennessee)

  17. My ex-wife and I adopted two three week old kittens outside of a Target many years ago, and I remember the bottle feedings, the teaching of bodily functions, all of it. We were fortunate because we already had two cats, and while one was a little annoyed with us for bringing these two noisy things into her quiet home, the other took a few hours to adjust, then climbed right into the box with them and cleaned them, settling down to play bodyguard and help them sleep.

We named them Benny and Joon. Joon was my baby. She followed me, snuggled with only me, and tolerated anyone else. Unfortunately, she died suddenly when she was only about 7, but she died knowing she was loved. Her brother Benny is still going, still a loving, playful old man at almost 15. I miss his little sister every day, but he always manages to make me smile...

Best of luck to you and Moses. He seems like he's a fighter, and he'll come out of this strong, more importantly, knowing he is loved, and loving you like the sun shines because you tell it to!

    1. Thank you, Biggshow. It was a learning experience for all of us. But we're so lucky/blessed that all of them are happy and healthy. Our vet said that it's a coin toss whether they make it past adolescence, but we're so happy that Mo is doing as well as he is.

  18. The the crazy thing about Moses the cat is it's my life story but in a form of a cat. My name is Moses too, my mom left me as a baby, I went to a foster home for a while until my dad faught in court to get my sisters and me back. I would really like to meet Moses the cat, its amazing how different we all are but can live similar lives...

    1. That IS amazing. Wow. Part of the reason why the name fits so well is the parallel to the biblical Moses (given in a basket, received by an adoptive mother), but your story is incredible. Both of you are true inspirations. This blog has restored so many people's faith in humanity, and we are honored that you would share your story with us. If you're ever around Tennessee, let us know! I'm sure Moses the Kitty would love to meet you as well.

    1. The Chive Rocks. Plain and simple. If it weren't for them, Moses' story would have gone unnoticed. But as it is, he's one of the most famous kitties in the world! (And he doesn't really mind the attention!)

  22. The most adorable thing I've ever seen! ^_^ each time I watch one of your video's, Mises reminds me of my lill kitty who was recently kidnapped :'| It maks me cry everytime. YOU GUYS on the other hand are the most amazing people I've seen. You saw a lill kitty and decided to help it instead of ignoring it as 99% of people would do. I not only envy you but you've inspired me.
